As time goes on

These pictures are now showing the roof and some walls.

Roofing has started.  The roof is Pewter Gray and we agonized over what I think should've been a simple decision.  I mean, it is just a roof!

Looking in from our big front window.

This is our future living room.

Our kitchen.  The closet is our pantry and the bathroom is right behind and the master bedroom is the room with the window.

This is the view when you walk in the front door.  To the right is the living room, to the left stairs to the basement and straight ahead is kitchen/dining area.  Going to love this view every breakfast!

Our dining area, view from outside.

Framing

This next series of pictures are of the framing of the house.  Things are really starting to take shape...ha! See what I did there?

Looking like a house!

A little bit more...

More pictures!!  This time, the cement forms are poured and we now have a basement!

What you can see driving up to the house.

This always scared me, I thought they would fall in

Part of our basement!

Myles playing in the future playroom!

Wait? What? How much time has gone by?

Since there has been a lot...A LOT...of progress on our house since I last updated, I think I will do a couple of posts of progression pictures.  Sound good?  Good...here we go!

We have a laneway!

And the backhoe starts to dig!  This was so exciting to finally see!

The layout of our home!

I remember thinking how small it looked.

And the forms are going up so the cement can be poured for the walls.

Have I mentioned I hate waiting?

We are still waiting on the lawyers to complete the paperwork on the land transfer.  It is looking like it won't be until the middle of July.  I just want to get started! Anyway, let me tell you about some of the choices we have made so far!

At first, we thought we were going to go with white kitchen cabinets.  But when we walked in the showroom and saw these (the ones on the right)  we kind of changed our minds.  Plus, the kitchen place we are dealing with doesn't do white, so decision made!  The top cabinets are shaker, but I think the bottom is the one we chose, raised panel.  I am digging the colour.  The counters are made of Meganite, better than laminate, but not quite as good as stone.

This is a sample of the laminate we picked out, really love the grayish tones in it.

We are thinking of a gray tile backsplash.  Probably subway tile, but we have yet to find it.

This is the counter top with cupboard.

So the kitchen is coming together nicely.  We just need to get this hole dug!

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...

Things with the house have kinda come to a standstill right now, which is why I haven't updated anything.  We are waiting on a survey being done on the land in order to transfer it into Matt's name.  Hopefully it will be all completed this week and then it is all systems go on starting the build!

We have sold our current house tho!  Less than 12 hours!  We could hardly believe it.  Matt's mom came and picked up Madelyn and Meredith for the day, so we could clean the house and get it ready.  Our agent called us to tell us that someone wanted to come thru, so we hurried and rushed and got everything done in just in time!  I mean, literally, I came home from Canadian Tire with a plant for the front hall just before Rob, our agent, came over.  Matt, Myles and I headed out to look at flooring for the new house and when we were finished came home to find two strange vehicles in our driveway.  We went to a nearby parking lot and called Rob, who told us they were getting together an offer for us!  We were so excited and hopeful and when we got the offer, it was a cash offer for the full asking amount, no conditions and only wanted our appliances, which we wanted to get rid of anyway!  It honestly, could not have gone any better for us!  The only downside, if you will, is that we have to be out by August 9th, and there is no way our new house will be ready by then.  My parents, however, have graciously said we can stay with them.

Here are some photos of the home we just sold.  Even though we were only here for a short time, we had some good memories!  Plus, it is the only home that Myles has ever known!

I really love the layout of this home.

Matt's space in the basement.  I think he wishes he spent more time down here!

We have an address!

We went to the build site today and also dropped off our building permit application. And they gave us our house number. Things are getting real now! As for our current house, it should go up for this week. We have been busy cleaning and organizing the house. Having strangers come thru the house is not fun, so here is hoping the house sells quick. There are other homes on the neighbourhood that have sold in 24hrs, so hopefully ours will follow suit!

The plans

Here are the plans for our new home!  I am so excited that I can't hardly stand it!  But there is still so much left to do.  We are working on our current house to get it ready for sale.  I will be calling a real estate agent later today so that we can get moving. Two things I want:  a good price and a long closing!  Although, my parents offered to let us stay at their place.  I am thinking that might be not a bad option.  I will probably get more sleep and definitely will get lots of help!

This land is our land...

Here are a few pictures of where we are building our new home.  We have 50 acres and are going to be surrounded my Matt's father's crops.
We are pretty excited by the incredible view we will have each day!
Walking the land with Daddy.
Discussing logistics with Grandpa.
The girls measuring out where the house will be built.  "Where will our room be?"
Our new house will be over there!

The corn has been planted.  I thought it might be neat to track the progression, when we move in, it should be almost ready for harvest.

Home on Forest Line...

We are building our new home! It is a dream come true for Matt and I, so I thought I would keep a journal of our progress. It will be nice to have a look back on this someday, the journey to our forever home.

I will start with a little bit of background of how we came to this point. My name is Stacey and Matt and I got married 6 years ago, after dating for 7 years, on February 25th. We have three children Madelyn-4, Meredith -2 and baby Myles who is just four months.
Our first home was in the country on a beautiful 2 acres. The home was small, but full of character. After our second daughter was born, we started to feel cramped in the two bedroom, one floor home, so we went looking. After looking into different properties, we realized that living in the city might be more economical for us. Aftersll, we both worked in the city. We fell in love with a house on Wiltshire, which was actually in the neighbourhood I grew up in.
After we moved, we quickly realized what we had done, giving up our quiet country home and decided to try to move back. Matt's parents graciously let us sever part of their farmland so that we could build our new home.
So this is where we are. Things are definitely going to be crazy around here the next few months! Here's hoping we make it through this alive and intact!
